Bristol based StudyInternational.com was launched after 6 months of design and development, but the result of more than a year of planning. A platform for students worldwide, Study International combines a complex search engine, help and advice content, an online student newspaper, travel inspiration and a place to view all university rankings in one place. Each of these elements and resources had never been put together before, making for a ‘one stop shop’ for anything and everything to do with international education.
The biggest challenge was designing a search system to cope with the huge amount of data collected; nearly 1 million courses and 9,000 odd institutions, representing universities, colleges, schools and other organisations across the UK, Canada, Australia and the United States. On top of this, students were to be able to filter results by location, price, level of study, duration of course and whether online or on campus.
In addition to the search engine, I worked to design an attractive news section that would appeal to prospective students as well as advertisers and promoters. Once live, the online newspaper was given a full-time editor to cover higher education news, produce advertorials and provide helpful information for international students.
The university rankings component of the project was designed to show all of the yearly results from the reputable ranking organisations in one place. Each ranking service was condensed into a card, or ‘teaser’, with its logo and branding, a short introduction, links to expert analysis, the top results and the ability to click through to the full rankings.
Where to Study was created to provide inspiration for students looking to study abroad. Large, beautiful photography was chosen to give users an immersive, pictorial experience.
Built to help students all over the world and to increase the amount of enquiries for Study International’s student advisors, with the aim to become the number one international student resource, StudyInternational.com launched in late 2014 and received hundreds of organic enquiries within the first week.
Since then, the site has helped Study International to support and assist thousands of international students, reach millions through news articles and advice pieces, saved users countless amounts of time by putting everything in one place and has enabled Study International to reach its business goals.
